Gattis Elementary art teacher Donna Staten has been invited to serve as a presenter and facilitator at the national Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers (ECET²) conference in Snowbird, Utah February 17 through 19.
Staten will present a session titled, “Intro to Pinterest,” for conference attendees.
She will also moderate a workshop on the power of social media to connect educators across the country and around the world.
In the workshop, Staten will be joined by high school teacher Sherri McPherson of Lexington, Ky. and three panelists from Brunswick Group of New York, an international business communications firm.
“I feel fortunate to have been included in the ECET² conference this month, as well as the roundtable discussion with Melinda Gates last October,” Staten said. “I have learned so much from amazing colleagues around the country. I look forward to implementing new ideas.”
In October, Staten attended a Gates Foundation roundtable discussion on how social media can improve teaching practices and collaboration.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will sponsor the ECET² national teacher’s conference this month. More than 250 teachers are expected to attend the third annual event.
In spring 2013, Staten gave a presentation on how to use Pinterest in the classroom at the National Art Education Association conference and will present again at the 2014 conference in San Diego, Calif. The Texas Classroom Teachers Association also invited her to speak on social media at the organization’s state conference in June.
