“I think teaching is the most influential career that a person could pursue. As a teacher I am still in awe of the impact I have on my students,” Drozd said. “It makes my day when former students come by to give me a hug or to share something that is going on in their life.”

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]PSprings_TOY_PageGrowing up, Cally Drozd’s favorite toys were a chalkboard and chalk. Those items were always close at hand as she tried to persuade her neighborhood friends to pretend to be students as she played the role of teacher.

Taking that desire past playtime, Drozd knew she was destined for the classroom after her sixth-grade teacher, Ms. Brian, showed her that learning could be fun, engaging and entertaining.

Drozd was selected as the 2017 Teacher of the Year for Pond Springs Elementary School. She has been an educator for 14 years with 10 of them teaching first grade at Pond Springs.

“I think teaching is the most influential career that a person could pursue. As a teacher I am still in awe of the impact I have on my students,” Drozd said. “It makes my day when former students come by to give me a hug or to share something that is going on in their life.”

Drozd sees her role as a teacher as one that teaches more than just academics. She goes above and beyond each day to incorporate life lessons into the curriculum so students develop lifelong skills to be successful in this world. To help accomplish that, she allows students to work in small instruction groups where they discuss the content. Collaborative work allows them to develop their confidence as leaders and show compassion to fellow classmates who may have difficulty comprehending the day’s lesson, Drozd said

“I love walking around monitoring my students and listening to them help each other,” Drozd said. “This type of activity is more hands-on and gives all my students a chance to help each other, contribute to the group and be each other’s biggest fans. ”

Her passion for teaching and love of helping students is widely known at Pond Springs. She also has the reputation for always being willing to help her fellow educators and continually working to improve classroom techniques through professional development.

“Cally Drozd is an exemplary veteran educator who loves children and values continuous learning and personal growth,” Pond Springs Principal Edie Binn said. “Her continuous pursuit of knowledge, reflective practice and professional manner has set a standard of practice for all teachers on our campus.”[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwd2lkdGglM0QlMjI1NjAlMjIlMjBoZWlnaHQlM0QlMjIzMTUlMjIlMjBzcmMlM0QlMjJodHRwcyUzQSUyRiUyRnd3dy55b3V0dWJlLmNvbSUyRmVtYmVkJTJGRFp2T09jZ2pPd2MlMjIlMjBmcmFtZWJvcmRlciUzRCUyMjAlMjIlMjBhbGxvd2Z1bGxzY3JlZW4lM0UlM0MlMkZpZnJhbWUlM0U=[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row]
