[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]McNeil High School Valedictorian Annie Wang made her mark on the school serving as a drum major in the marching band for two years and is now leading her class through graduation.
Moving forward, Wang will continue her education at the University of Texas at Austin in the McCombs School of Business Honors program.
“I really love working with people, which is how I knew that business would be my path,” Wang said. “I’m not sure what I want to do with my career yet, but I’m interested in social entrepreneurship and the technology industry.”
Along with McNeil, Wang also attended Forest North Elementary School and Deerpark Middle School. Wang served as head drum major in the McNeil Maverick Marching Band and was a member of National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta.
Wang earned the role of drum major, traditionally reserved for senior members of the marching band, as a junior, which allowed her to grow leadership and organizational skills. Leading the band for two years, including serving her senior year as head drum major, was an unexpected, but the greatest accomplishment of high school, she said.
Wang also served as a leader within the classroom. Former McNeil pre-AP World Geography Teacher Heather Scott was an integral part of Wang’s high school experience and taught her to look at information with purpose rather than just observe.
“Annie is just a great kid,” Scott said. “She is kind to her classmates, was always on top of things and always asked great questions about what we were talking about. She is the perfect combination of sweet and smart.”[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/OnarkipLOLQ?list=PLE8IqSthAqE5cUSB6BnrsKlXWm594NPi7″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
