RRISD students participate in 2016 Lone Star Leadership Academy camps

Leadership-01Advancing their leadership skills this summer, 23 Round Rock ISD students participated in the 2016 Lone Star Leadership Academy camps.

Students were selected to attend one of the Lone Star Leadership Academy camps across Texas, which provided them with the opportunity to learn about state leaders and what it means to be a Texas citizen. Participants also discussed what they learned, completed problem solving and decision-making simulations, exercised creativity, and practiced presentation skills in Leadership Groups.

Camps took place in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Galveston, San Antonio and Austin. Depending on the location of their camp, students also had the chance to learn through various site visits. Venues included the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, the Texas State Capitol, the Bullock Texas State History Museum, the Alamo and NASA. Each site visit also had representatives present to introduce students to a variety of careers.

A total of 1,144 students across the state were selected. The students were chosen for the Lone Star Leadership Academy camps based on demonstrated academic success and leadership ability, an educator recommendation, and involvement in school/community activities.
