Meet Gifted and Advanced Academic Services Coordinator, Melissa Vasquez

My name is Melissa Vasquez and I am the new Gifted and Advanced Academic Services Coordinator, focusing on elementary programming. I’m grateful to say that I’ve been in the Round Rock ISD family for 11 years now. I started as a substitute for the district after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin. Go Longhorns! My first full time campus was Union Hill Elementary as a fourth grade teacher. After five years in that position, I became the TAG Specialist and have loved every minute of it. When I was asked to open a new school with my principal, I jumped at the opportunity and Redbud Elementary became my home.

My husband and I are empty nesters. We have a daughter and a son that are both in their twenties and navigating their way through life. That means our dog Pyper is our “baby” now – and we definitely spoil her. On the weekends, we enjoy spending time outdoors (i.e. hiking, biking, dog parks) and local entertainment (i.e. food truck parks, live music, restaurants).

I have loved being a classroom teacher. But, I am ready for a new challenge and excited to learn and grow. In this role, I hope to support the teachers, students, and families in our community, to promote equitable models across campuses, and to building meaningful relationships. Thank you for allowing me to serve in a district that I wholeheartedly believe in. I’m inspired by each of you every day.
