Campus News 10.03.2018

Happy October!

It is hard to believe that we are beginning our third (almost!) month of school!  I hope that you had the opportunity to get outside this weekend and enjoy our brief hint of fall!

October brings cooler weather (I promise!), darker mornings, falling into routines, the end of our first nine weeks and celebrations! This Friday, both of our feeder high schools, Round Rock and McNeil celebrate their Homecoming games with special celebrations.  Tonight is the parade for RRHS beginning at St. Williams Church at 5:00.  Line-up begins at 4:00, and the parade should end at about 6:30.  Our newly formed Ambassador Club will be representing Patsy Sommer, but please come and join us as a family to cheer on our Dragons!  The parade is followed by an evening pep rally in the stadium if you are interested.  On Friday evening, our McNeil Stallions are invited to participate in the first Tunnel Stampede (Perfect for Stallions!).

Then, go out on Friday night to the RRHS or Kelly Reeves Stadium to support your team!!

Custodian Appreciation Day!

Today was Custodian Appreciation Day…Our custodians work extra hard to keep our school clean and safe for our Stallions!  Please help us to appreciate them by encouraging your children to do their part in keeping our building clean, and to say, “Thank you!” We Love Our Custodians!

PTA Stuff the Boots!

Our PTA Stuff the Boots campaign is almost over!  Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed!  Our PTA truly does so much for our school and every dime raised goes to support ALL of our students through technology, flexible seating, speakers, authors, movie nights (Nov. 2!), fun celebrations, resources, Spelling Bee, Math Superstars, Reflections, Passport to Sommer, spring carnival and so, so much more!!…From last year’s funds, they are supporting three Eagle Scout projects expanding and renovating our third grade gardens and creating a butterfly garden/outdoor learning space.  If you have not contributed, please do!  (Fifth grade, your boots are looking a little white! Please show your appreciation for all of the great experiences your students have experienced due to our PTA throughout the years and pass it forward as they celebrate their last year at Patsy Sommer!)  Three More Days…..We truly appreciate your support!

PTA Meeting/RRISD School Bond Presentation

Our next PTA General Meeting is next Friday, Oct. 12 following our PTA Executive Board Meeting at 10:30.  The meeting should begin around 11:15.  Have questions about the RRISD bond?  Over 300 Round Rock citizens were involved in the process to determine a need for the upcoming bond.  I will be presenting the Facts concerning our district finances and the needs presented in the proposed bond issue.  District-level personnel will be here to answer any questions that you may have.  Please join us upstairs in the science lab/multi-purpose room!  The RRISD website also has great information and a very informative FAQ page…Check it out here! RRISD Bond Information

Clubs:

Thank you for our patience as we develop our new process for signing up for our campus-based after school enrichment clubs.  As you know, our teachers volunteer their time to provide these activities for free to our students.  In order to maintain a quality experience, our clubs must be limited in size.  This year, our goal was to continue to Empower World Class Leaders by providing our students the opportunity to choose clubs based on their personal interest.  Lists for club membership based on student choices are currently being compiled.  Students will be notified on Thursday, and information will go home in Thursday folders.  Parent permission and Club Guidelines signed by parents and students will be due back on Monday.  Please contact Therese Wafford, assistant principal with any questions.  Please also understand that due to the size of our clubs, not everyone may receive a position.  If that is the case, it is not too late to register for our Community Education programs this fall or spring. We appreciate your support!
