Lowke named to National Pilot Program

Recently the National Art Education Association (NAEA) notified Tim Lowke, Assistant Director of Visual & Performing Arts for Round Rock ISD that he is the Supervision/Administration Representative for the newly formed Cultural Competency in Teaching and Leadership Certification Program Pilot Program.

“Tim has emerged over the past two years as a lead learner in our district’s Equity Task Force.  From the beginning, he embraced diving into courageous and uncomfortable conversations about race and equity and sought avenues to share that learning with the Fine Arts team.  He is an exemplar model of an educational professional dedicated to removing barriers to institutional and systemic racism in all areas of Round Rock ISD.”  Laura Segers, Executive Director, State and Federal Programs

The purpose of the Pilot Program is creating an NAEA Cultural Certificate Program to support art educators in building leadership skills, executing vision, and developing capacity focused on equity, diversity and inclusion. A cohort of seven members, including one visual art educator from each membership division and representing each geographic region, were chosen. The program is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Art Education Foundation.

Lisa Roebuck, Director of Fine Arts states ” We are so incredibly proud to have Tim Lowke serve not only as a leader in our district but at the national level.  We look forward to his participation in this cohort and the ideas he will bring back to Round Rock ISD, in particular as the RRISD Fine Arts Department continues to develop our own “Arts Lead” cohort program to develop future arts leaders.”

Mr. Lowke is a working member of the Round Rock ISD Equity Task Force and a 2019 graduate of the School for Art Leaders.
