Board sets middle school boundary changes for 2017-18 school year

The Board of Trustees approved a middle school attendance area change that will alter school assignments for students currently zoned for Chisholm Trail, Cedar Valley, Deerpark, Grisham, and Walsh middle schools. Trustees unanimously approved the final proposal at its November 17, 2016, regular meeting that balanced demographics, minimized enrollment shifts at current schools, and allowed schools room to accommodate future growth.  The plan relieves over-enrollment at Chisholm Trail, Cedar Valley, and Walsh by 180, 252, and 329 students, respectively. It allows Pearson Ranch to open at 66 percent of its building capacity, allowing for growth with future housing developments. [Middle School Attendance Area Change 2017, November 17 Board Briefs]

Citizens Bond Committee continues evaluation of projects for possible May 2017 election

A group of community leaders have been evaluating projects, including new facilities, capital renewal, and technology, to be part of a possible Bond Election in May 2017. The group met three times in late October and November to discuss projects identified through the Round Rock ISD Strategic Plan that could require capital investment. The Citizens Bond Committee (CBC) has evaluated and prioritized projects in the areas of safety and innovation. The group charged with assessing the needs of new schools, as well as athletic facilities and fine arts facilities is continuing to work before the team drafts a recommended proposal. The finance committee evaluated scenarios for tax implications and bond sales for packages totaling between $300 million and $600 million.
