Recognized for his work to improve the lives of students at McNeil High School, Boys Cross Country Coach Glenn Roberts was awarded the 2017 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Sponsor Excellence Award.

Roberts is one of 16 UIL sponsors from across the state to earn the distinction, which awards sponsors for their efforts in the fields of academics and fine arts. The award identifies and recognizes outstanding sponsors who assist students in developing and refining their extracurricular talents to the highest degree possible within the educational system while helping them to build personal worth regardless of the competition outcome.

“This is a well-deserved honor for Coach Roberts,” said Athletic Director Dwayne Weirich. “He always put our student’s needs first while focusing on their development as students and athletes who succeed both inside the classroom and on the running trail.”

Roberts was nominated by his campus for the award, and in recognition of his honor, he will be awarded $1,000.

“The benefits of interscholastic competition and student performance are only possible through the commitment and dedication of sponsors, coaches and directors like these award winners. The UIL is proud to recognize these individuals through this award,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt.
