Stony Point High School students found success at the University Scholastic League (UIL) State Academic Meet with six students placing and one student earning a state championship award in their respective events.

Overall, Stony Point students acquired 40 team points. This composite score tied the school for eleventh place out of 63 schools. In the prior regional competition, Stony Point acquired 60 points. This composite score ranked the school eighth in the region out of 37 schools.

Stony Point Principal, Anthony Watson, says that he is proud of the accomplishments of all six students and their dedication to academic success.

“Our students have worked extremely hard,” said Watson. “The teachers and students spent countless hours to make sure they were prepared to do their best.  I am exceptionally proud of how they represented Stony Point High School.”

UIL Academic winners:

  • Trevor Brown, Fourth Place Current Events, and
  • Morgan Santoni-Colvin, Silver Medalist (2nd Place) Social Studies.

UIL Academic coaches include Jesse Adams, Social Studies and Current Events and Rebecca Plumley, Headline Writing.

The University Interscholastic League offers the most comprehensive program of academic competition in the nation, according to its website. UIL Academics offers more activities than any other UIL division, with 29 contests at the high school level and 20 A+ Academic contests for grades 2-8. More than half a million students participate in UIL academic contests each year.
