While finding the perfect prom dress can be the stuff of teenage dreams, this treasured tradition can also be the source of stress because of expenses that quickly add up.

PROMRack, established by the Write to Me Foundation, was created to ease that anxiety and help make dreams come true. The organization will host its 16th annual prom dress giveaway on April 6 from 1:30-6 p.m. at Lanier Early College High School, 1201 Payton Gin Road, Austin. Girls between the ages of 14 and 21 will have the opportunity to select a formal occasion dress at no cost.

The event treats Central Texas high school students to a complete shopping experience that includes a choice of dress, shoes, and jewelry, all at no cost. New this year, students must register at Writetome.org and present a ticket to attend. Registration opens on March 1. Shoppers must show their school ID and be accompanied by an adult.  Alterations and makeup tips will also be available.

The Write to Me Foundation would like information about the event to be shared with any Central Texas high school student who would benefit from the experience.

Please make sure you read and adhere to the following requirements:

  • Students must be accompanied by an adult, have a school ID, and be between the ages of 14 and 21.
  • Students must be registered on Eventbrite and present ticket at registration.
  • Students will line up and be admitted according to their group numbers.
  • Dressing rooms are limited, so please come in tights or clothing that will allow trying on dresses on top of clothing.
