Round Rock ISD has partnered with the City of Round Rock to create Round Rock Teen UniverCity, a program that will give juniors and seniors the opportunity to experience the inner workings of city government. Round Rock Teen UniverCity, which will begin this summer,  aims to teach students that they can have a voice in local government issues and explore future career opportunities in public service.

This year, Round Rock Teen UniverCity will run from May 28 through June 7 and take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day with lunch included for each participant. During the day, students will learn about different areas of city government by participating in presentations that include interactive tours of facilities and hands-on activities. The participants will visit with departments such as City Administration, Fire, Police, Information Technology, Finance, Parks and Recreation, and Sports Management.

The program is accepting applications from students who are currently juniors or seniors in Round Rock ISD. For interested students, the application can be completed online and the deadline to submit your information for consideration is May 12. Students will be notified of their selection before May 20.

Membership in Round Rock Teen UniverCity will be composed of at least two to three representatives from each of the high schools.

Exciting experiences throughout the program include a tour and discussion of the future development of downtown Round Rock, an exercise with Communications to learn about interview best practices, an escape room activity, and an ATV tour of parks and sports facilities.  Participants will also have the opportunity to meet with various city officials and staff, learn strategies for improving the community, network, and learn about career development.
