April Nilson has been named the new principal of Berkman Arts Integration Academy.

Nilson has served as the assistant principal of Gattis Elementary School since 2015 and, during that time, helped assess campus culture and opportunities for improvement in the areas of equity and learning barriers. Before her time at Gattis, she served as an elementary and intervention teacher at Pflugerville ISD. She has 13 years of experience in education. She is also a graduate of the District’s Team One Program, designed to provide aspiring principals with professional development relevant to the principal role.

“Berkman is a campus rooted in relationships, meeting the needs of every child with a focus on integrating arts and enrichment into every aspect of learning,” Nilson said. “The core beliefs and vision of Berkman AIA are a perfect match for my vision of what I believe every child should experience in a positive, collaborative school environment. I look forward to building partnerships with teachers, students, families, and the community. I can’t wait to serve both Berkman and the greater Cedar Ridge Learning Community as part of the Round Rock ISD family. ”

Nilson earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Lyon College in Arkansas.
