Blackland Prairie, Forest Creek and Gattis elementary schools partnered in hosting “Kids Kicking Out Hunger,” a charity kickball tournament that raised $2,370 for two organizations.
Nearly 200 students from the elementary schools competed in teams at the tournament. Each student donated $10 to register for the tournament, which were donated to the Round Rock Area Serving Center and Friends of Los Ninos, a nonprofit group that funds an orphanage and villages in Honduras. The tournament also collected food for the serving center.
The Blackland Prairie Wildcat Strong and the Gattis Super Second Graders won the tournament.
“The first ‘Kids Kicking Out Hunger’ event was a fabulous day for the kids are their families,” said Susan Shogan, Forest Creek third-grade teachers and kickball tournament coordinator. “Giving is truly the best gift we give ourselves.”
