Students at Double File Trail Elementary School are becoming better readers, thanks to a grant from the Round Rock ISD Partners in Education Foundation.
Librarian Kay Williams was awarded $700 for a grant to purchase high interest fiction and non-fiction e-books to enhance student’s reading skills and achievement. Teachers in grades 2-5 collaborated with the librarian to choose topics that enhance their curriculum and of high interest to students.
The e-books are intended for students to use both at school and home on a variety of platforms. Reading progress will be evaluated as to amount of use and improvement in reading testing using the BAS Kit Testing, the Accelerated Reader Program, and the STAAR Testing.
This grant has led to at least 75% or more students grades 2-5 having meet the goal of 75% or more improvement in reading. All students have been taught a lesson by the librarian on MackinVia Ebooks, how to use them, and how to access them at home on their own device. Teachers have been given a list of the e-books available in the library are encouraged to incorporate them in classroom lessons.
