Students at England Elementary School gave a collective “thumbs up” to chana masala, a new vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free lunch entree offered earlier this week. Chef Jeff Moll from Round Rock ISD’s Food Services created this flavorful recipe as an opportunity to pilot new and innovative international cuisine for students to enjoy. Implementing Chef’s recipe, Food Services Central Kitchen made the chana masala from scratch. The dish is made with chickpeas, tomato, turmeric, curry, ginger root and cilantro. The level of student participation during pilot lunches helps Food Services determine the opportunity to include other international, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options as ongoing menu items for our students.
