Parent Information - Virtual Learning Attendance

Important Attendance Information

  • A student MUST complete the daily attendance requirements described above by 11:59 p.m. in order to be counted present for the day.
    • For example, if a student is absent from in person learning and does not submit any assignments on 8/26 and completes an activity in Schoology the following morning, 8/27, at 5:00 a.m., it does NOT count toward the previous day’s attendance requirement even though it was completed prior to the recapture deadline.
    • The assignment date or due date do not have an impact on attendance, only the date that an assignment is actually submitted.
  • A student who completes several days worth of assignments on one day can only use those assignments as evidence of activity on the date they are submitted. The student must meet at least one of the daily requirements described above by 11:59 p.m. that day in order to be counted as present.

Our virtual learning program provides families with an option that is engaging and rigorous.

Students who choose this option will participate in virtual learning Monday through Friday and will experience the same curriculum facilitated by a certified, Round Rock ISD teacher as those who have selected on-campus learning. Each day, students will have periods of daily, live instruction with certified teachers, as well as periods of self-paced, independent learning. Students will be assessed on their mastery of the TEKS standards, regardless of whether they are learning on-campus or virtually.

To facilitate virtual learning, Round Rock ISD has adopted the Schoology Learning Management System® to allow for seamless continuation of learning in any environment. Schoology® brings students, teachers, parents, and administrators together within one communication and collaboration platform. Teachers will create content, design lessons, and assess student understanding within the platform. Students engage in an online classroom community that encourages collaboration, discussion and creativity. Parents will have one-stop access to all of their childrens’ accounts with one log-in.

Additional information about how to access your child’s Schoology® account will be provided once school begins.

More information on the program and Schoology® can be found in the  Reimagining Education Plan.

Virtual Learning by Grade Level

General

What is the final day to make a change to our choice for our student’s learning environment (i.e., virtual to on-campus)?

There is not a designated deadline. We understand family circumstances can quickly change and remain flexible. The Aug. 6 date was given to help campus principals plan for staffing and logistical needs however, if you make a choice before Aug 6, you can contact your child’s campus administration and request a change.

Will return to traditional on-campus learning this school year or will it all be virtual learning?

We will continue to rely on guidance from our local health authorities and the Texas Education Agency (TEA). We cannot predict the course of the pandemic, but if conditions allow we will be thrilled to return to a traditional school day. We will continue this year to utilize the learning management system Schoology as a tool so that if schools need to be closed we can switch seamlessly to virtual.

What criteria will be used to determine when on-campus learning will resume?

Our Director of Health Services is in frequent contact with both Williamson County and Cities Health District and Austin Public Health for information and guidance. Our safety protocols for opening schools are guided by information from both these agencies as well as the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the CDC.

When will devices be distributed for the upcoming year? If we checked one our last year and no longer need it, how can we return it?

Campus principals will share this information with families soon.

Prekindergarten - 5th Grade

Students in PK-5th grade will participate in daily live, two-way instruction delivered by Round Rock ISD teachers via computer. Students must be logged in at the teacher’s official attendance time to be marked present for the day. Students who are not logged in at the official attendance time, but who complete the day’s assignments on the same day, will be counted present.

The program will include live virtual instruction delivered daily by Round Rock ISD teachers via computer, coupled with independent practice. Class meetings, small groups, and 1-to-1 support will be included, as well as social and emotional learning opportunities. Specialized programs such as Dual Language, IB and Integration Academies may have slight variations within the virtual model. Parents and caregivers will be expected to ensure their students login and participate in daily scheduled two-way instruction and to ensure their students complete independent activities during other times of the day to practice and extend learning.
