Round Rock ISD students who are unable to afford school meals are encouraged to apply for the free and reduced price meal program served under the National School Lunch Program and/or School Breakfast Program. Students of RRISD who are eligible to receive meal benefits at a free or reduced rate will be provided free meal benefits.
Students who qualify for the free and reduced price meals are not publicly identified in any way. Eligibility guidelines are established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Program participation also enables the District to acquire increased funding, which is reinvested into student programs.
Application forms and letters informing households of the availability of free and reduced price meals for RRISD students will be included in student back-to-school packets. Applications are also available at the front office in each school and at the Food Service office located at 16255 Great Oaks Drive, Suite 100, Round Rock.
To apply for free and reduced price meals, households must fill out an online application at https://www.schoollunchapp.com/District.aspx or a paper application form and return it to the school or Food Services office. Applications may be submitted any time during the school year. Only one application per household is required. Households that were eligible for meal benefits in the prior school year must reapply for the 2015-2016 school year.
The household size and income criteria identified in the table below will be used to determine eligibility for free and reduced price benefits. Students from households whose income is at or below the levels shown are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Foster children who are the legal responsibility of the state agency or court are eligible for free meal benefits regardless of the income of the household with whom they reside.
For school officials to determine eligibility for free and reduced price benefits, households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)/Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) only have to list their child’s name and SNAP or TANF eligibility group number (EDG#). An adult household member must sign the application.
Households that do not list a SNAP/TANF eligibility group number must list the names of all household members, the amount and source of the income received by each household member, and the Social Security number of the adult household member who signs the application. If the adult who signs the application does not have a Social Security number, the household member must indicate that a Social Security number is not available by marking an “X” in the box provided on the application that reads “X here if You DO NOT have a SSN.” The application must be signed by an adult household member.
Under the provisions of the free and reduced-price meal policy, the Food Service Records Clerk will review the application and determine eligibility using requirements determined by the USDA. Parents or guardians who wish to discuss eligibility may contact the Food Service Records Clerk at 512 464-8286. Or, if necessary, may make a formal appeal for a hearing, either orally or in writing, to the Director of Risk Management, 1311 Round Rock Avenue, Round Rock, TX, 78681, or phone number 512 464-5454.
If a household member becomes unemployed or if the household size increases, the household should contact the school or the District Food Services Department. Such changes may make the students of the household eligible for benefits if the household’s income falls at or below the levels shown below:
In accordance with Federal Law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.
