For parents/guardians who don’t speak, read or understand English, navigating their child’s school can be frustrating and overwhelming. And it can be a barrier for them to speak up about their child’s needs.

There are more than 90 different languages spoken by families in our community, according to our Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). The top five languages spoken in our learning community are English, Spanish, Telugu, Mandarin, and Hindi.

“Improving access to translation services is essential for assuring that students and families are able to understand key issues, events, resources, and materials that their schools and the District produce,” said Dr. Brenda Agnew, director of equity, diversity, and inclusion. ”For parents/guardians who speak another language other than English, access to information can improve student and family outcomes.”
