As part of Stony Point High School’s homecoming traditions, students from Berkman, Herrington, Robertson, Teravista and Double File Trail elementary schools came together for a fitness challenge that was held during halftime at the campus Powder Puff football game.

Parents, students and staff were excited to participate in the events which included longest punt, longest pass, longest field goal kick, 30-yard dash and the 20-yard dizzy cone race. Students were eager to run on the football of the high school they would be attending.

“It is important that our elementary students feel like they are already part of the Stony Point nation,” Stony Point principal Anthony Watson said. “We want the elementary students to look forward to high school and know that they are going to have a great experience.”

At the conclusion of the event, medals were handed out to first place winners and a traveling trophy was awarded to the school with the most overall points. The 2016 overall winner for the Tiger Challenge is Herrington.

Stony Point is looking forward to hosting the event again during the 2017 homecoming week.

“I am so proud of our Herrington Team led by Coach Shelby,” Herrington principal Julie Nelson said. “They represented our Herrington community perfectly as they worked hard, excelled, and had fun while doing it. The students were excited to be a part of the Stony Point challenge. This was a great opportunity for them to visualize themselves as high school students.”
