Dear Round Rock ISD Community,

Classrooms may be quiet, but work continues in Round Rock ISD as we prepare and plan for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year…and beyond!

This summer we are moving forward on many projects from Bond 2018 which will impact our community at the campus and District-wide level. The next few months will see a number of projects take shape and we want to be sure our students, parents, staff and community members are informed and up-to-date on this exciting process.

This summer, projects related to safety and security, technology, capital renewal and replacement and athletics are underway. Safety and security projects include the installation of surveillance cameras and panic buttons for portable classrooms, installation of a video intercom system at the front entrance of campuses and upgrades to our visitor management system, which is utilized at each school. We will also begin the installation of emergency broadcast and intercom systems and student badging systems at our campuses.

These are priority projects for Round Rock ISD as we continue to work toward creating a unified system of safety and security resources, as well as process and procedures at all Round Rock ISD campuses.

In an effort to improve and update the technology that our students and staff use on a daily basis, we will begin refreshing student laptop carts and devices, as well as campus and staff devices at various campuses. This refresh will be an ongoing project and take place as needed at campuses across the District.

The much-needed capital renewal and replacement projects beginning this summer include roofing, HVAC and paving improvements and upgrades at campuses and facilities. We’re also breaking ground on playground improvements at multiple elementary campuses, including installation of new playground turf and shade structures. Turf will also be replaced at both the Cedar Ridge High School field and Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex. The track at Cedar Ridge is also slated to undergo improvements.

Major projects in the design phase include Phase 4a and 4b of Westwood High School’s Master Plan, Phase 2a of McNeil High School’s Master Plan, the reconstruction of C.D. Fulkes Middle School, the construction of an Aquatics Practice Facility and the District’s 35th elementary school. This is a critical time for these projects as the design and planning stages will create a strong foundation for project implementation.

As our District moves forward on Bond 2018 projects during the 2019-2020 school year,  we will continue to reach out with updates as well as information on what to look for in the future. Between updates, I encourage you to stay connected to our Bond website, for news and information.

We remain focused on this important work, which is driven by our mission to serve all students in Round Rock ISD and create learning environments for all to find success. That mindset has and will keep us focused on progress and we are thankful for your support as we continue to serve the more than 50,000 students in Round Rock ISD.

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful summer break. We look forward to seeing students back on our campuses in August to begin another outstanding school year.

Respectfully,
Steve Flores, Ph.D.
Round Rock ISD Superintendent of Schools
