Cynthia Griggs has been named the new principal of Gattis Elementary School.

Griggs has served as the assistant principal of Brushy Creek Elementary School since 2017. During that time, she led the creation of an equity task force to research and plan staff professional development, rooted in community connectivity and social and emotional learning. She also partnered with the campus’ behavior interventionist to proactively plan and implement social and emotional support for students, resulting in a 63 percent decrease in the total number of discipline referrals. She has a total of 11 years of experience in education, five of those years as a classroom teacher.

She is also a graduate of the District’s Team One Program, designed to provide aspiring principals with professional development relevant to the principal role.

“I am truly honored and humbled to join the Gator community as the new proud principal,” Griggs said. “I’m passionate about inclusivity for all members of our community and look forward to building relationships that will ensure the academic and social-emotional success for every student.

Griggs earned her Master’s in Education and Bachelor’s in Science from Texas State University.
