Students from Canyon Vista, Cedar Valley and Pearson Ranch middle schools and Westwood High School used their minds to pass the competition and take home some of the top prizes at the 2022 Texas Science and Engineering Fair (TSEF).
TSEF is an annual state science competition for students in sixth through 12th grade. The fair provides an opportunity for middle and high school students across Texas to showcase their research projects in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, according to TSEF.
The winning students for the middle school category are listed below with their respective schools and awards:
- Uma Sthanu, first place in Systems Software, Canyon Vista,
- Asvini Thivakaran second place in Energy: Sustainable Materials and Design, Cedar Valley,
- Aarsh Shekhar, second place in Physics and Astronomy, Pearson Ranch, and;
- Vedanth Chakravartula and Abhinav Devarakonda, third place in Plant Sciences, Pearson Ranch Middle School.
The winning students for the high school category are listed below with their respective schools and awards:
- Shoumik Roychowdhury, first place in Systems Software, Westwood,
- Aneesh Vanguri, first place in Environmental Engineering, Westwood, and;
- Hannah Lee, third place in Chemistry, Westwood.
With their first place win, Roychowdhury will advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which will be held in May.
