The Foundation of Music Education has awarded six Round Rock ISD bands and orchestras at four campuses the recognition of National Winner during its annual award program.

The Mark of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school bands, choirs and orchestras. Ensembles submit performance recordings which are adjudicated by band conductors from outstanding universities and high schools nationwide to earn distinctions. The top 25 percent of entrants are recognized as National Winners.

National Winners for 2022 include:

  • Canyon Vista Middle School Honors Orchestra, Directed by Ragan Whatley,
  • Canyon Vista Middle School Symphony Orchestra, Directed by Ragan Whatley and Jay Hagy,
  • Canyon Vista Middle School Honors Band, Directed by Jay Hagy,
  • Grisham Middle School Honors Band, Directed by Liz Love,
  • Walsh Middle School Honor Band, Directed by Jennifer Bergeron, and
  • Round Rock High School Symphony Orchestra, Directed by Sandra Vandertulip.

“This is an incredible honor for our students and directors,” said Jager Loyde, Director of Fine Arts – Music. “Out of all entered ensembles, Round Rock ISD had the most selected winners across the nation, which was 13! We hope to continue supporting these achievements and furthering Round Rock ISD’s tradition of excellence on a national level.”
