Julie Carrera has been named the new principal of Herrington Elementary School.

Carrera has served as the assistant principal of Herrington since 2014 and, during that time, led efforts to support new teachers and adjustments to campus’ processes aimed at improving student performance and addressing needs. Before her time at Herrington, she served as an instructional coach at Wells Branch, Gattis, Blackland Prairie and Purple Sage elementary schools and was an elementary teacher. She has 23 years of experience in education. She is also a graduate of the District’s Team One Program, designed to provide aspiring principals with professional development relevant to the principal role.

“I am honored to serve the outstanding Herrington community as principal and continue the tradition of excellence that Herrington students, families and staff have come to know,” Carrera said. “I am committed to ensuring all students have opportunities to grow, be valued and experience success. I look forward to working together with our dedicated staff and supportive parents to nurture a learning community that ensures academic achievement and supports social-emotional development for our students.”

Carrera earned her Master’s in Elementary Education from Texas State University and a Bachelor’s in Humanities from Trinity University.
