The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees has approved a one-year extension of Superintendent Dr. Hafedh Azaiez’s contract which now runs through June 2026. The Board voted on the extension in a special called meeting on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

Trustees first appointed Azaiez in June 2021. His priorities since then have included:

  • A heightened focus on early literacy and numeracy to ensure a strong foundation in reading and math to help prepare students for higher-level classes needed for success in college.
  • Increasing advanced math options for students and boosting College, Career, and Military Readiness ratings among high school students.
  • Exploring ways to boost staff salaries while also launching several new programs to support employees, including recognition programs, a new catastrophic leave bank, and a partnership to help support housing costs for up to 100 employees.

“Dr. Azaiez is focused on improving outcomes and expanding opportunities for Round Rock ISD students and also on supporting our teachers so we continue to attract and retain the world-class educators that make us a destination district,” Board President, Amber Landrum, said. “It’s been a pleasure working with him and we’re looking forward to the future.”

In a message to the Trustees, Azaiez thanked the Board for their faith in him to lead the district.

“The past couple of years have been very challenging as we have dealt with the after-effects of the pandemic and faced the obstacles brought by a lack of increase in state funding,” Azaiez said. “However, it has also been extremely gratifying and rewarding to see our District, with the support of the Board and our community, achieve so many amazing results.”
