Round Rock ISD is set to host its 7th Annual Merge, featuring ensemble dance teams from Cedar Ridge, McNeil, Round Rock, Stony Point and Westwood high schools.

Round Rock dance instructor Gabrielle Aufiero said Merge is a unique event in the District because it brings together dancers from all five high schools.

“The participating students not only get to share their passion for dance by performing for their friends and families, but they also get to build a camaraderie with the other Round Rock ISD dance teams,” Aufiero said.

She said the production isn’t just another performance opportunity, but rather a celebration of each team’s journey and progress.

Ava Collins, a senior at Round Rock High, said Merge gives each ensemble a chance to shine.

“Unlike competition, teams are not competing against each other for the top title, and unlike school-run shows, it is not only one team dancing with a few guest performances,” she said. “At Merge, we are together for the singular purpose of making something extraordinary and sharing it with those that we love across the District.”

Ava said that through this experience she’s gained more than friendships, she’s gained a family.

“On stage at Merge, we transcend the daily standard of a team. We think as one, move as one, and perform as one. Through all the hardships and mistakes, we are truly together and there for each other, and to me, that is beyond beautiful,” she said.

This year, a newly formed ballet folklórico team will join the lineup, adding diversity to the event.

Merge will take place Friday, March 1, at 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Hartfield Performing Arts Center. There is a $5 suggested donation.
