Round Rock ISD Theatre programs are dominating the Austin theater scene!

Cedar Ridge, McNeil, Round Rock and Westwood high schools all received nominations in several categories for the 2024 Heller Awards for Young Artists.

Westwood sophomore Vivian Toney said it feels surreal to be nominated for Best Supporting Performer (Female) for her performance in Westwood’s production of Mean Girls.

“I never would’ve imagined that I would’ve gotten an honor as huge as this,” she said. “I think it’s such an amazing thing to be a part of, so getting recognized for my work is really crazy!”

Vivian said her favorite part about working on Mean Girls was the environment.

“Even though the task at hand was challenging, I think being in such a supportive environment helped the process go by a lot smoother. I also loved all of the laughter that was created.”

The Heller Awards for Young Artists boosts visibility for high school musical theater programs and celebrates the hard work and talent of thousands of students and teachers in the Greater Austin area.

Through award recognition, exclusive master classes, hands-on training with industry professionals, critical evaluations with constructive feedback, scholarships, program grants, and community-wide awareness, the HAYAs celebrate, elevate and expand musical theater and the arts in our schools, and our community.

The awards ceremony will be held at The Long Center on April 17, 2024.
