IB Primary Years Programme

What happens at our school?

Students learn how to ask challenging questions, think critically, develop research skills and apply them within a global context. We encourage students to think independently and drive their own learning, growing themselves as open-minded, reflective inquirers.

We put kids first

Our community of educators support and guide students as they discover the approaches to learning needed for academic and personal success. We aim to make a positive change in the world by growing hearts and minds through dynamic cycles of inquiry, action and reflection.

Students will have access to:

  • Multi-linguistic and intercultural curriculum
  • Global engagement
  • Cross-integrated lessons
  • Integrated technology
  • Exposure to college and career choices
  • Flexible and collaborative learning spaces
  • Outdoor learning spaces
  • Individualized learning
  • Service learning
Mission
By developing the PYP essential elements – concepts, skills, attitudes, knowledge and action – we will cultivate metacognitive and critical thinking skills through a rigorous and engaging curriculum and learning environment. This will prepare students to navigate, innovate, and solve problems to flourish within a changing world.

By modeling growth mindset and acknowledging each other as capable individuals, we will empower students to reflect on their learning, behavior, and relationships in order to take purposeful action.

By building a sense of personal and shared responsibility while nurturing meaningful relationships, we will foster international-mindedness. We will instill a commitment to the global community by embracing intercultural appreciation and understanding that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Vision
Spicewood cultivates self-awareness to embrace curiosity, empathy, and collaboration within our local and global communities.
